Tighter Budgets in the Kingdom

Prince Charming presented his proposal to the Committee for Princess Finding - that he would personally take a detachment from the Palace Guard to scour the land for the lady whose foot fit the glass slipper left behind.

However, a member of the committee (potentially the day job of a wicked step mother or ugly sister) came up with an alternative option – put out a proclamation on the Royal Web backed up by an application form to allow potential princesses to register their shoe size.

Of course, the second option was adopted as it was cheaper, and viewed as a better use of resources. Cinderella did not have access to the Royal Web and so remained unaware of the proclamation and never registered her shoe size.

When all the entries had been screened, it was determined that none of the shoe size matches fitted the glass slipper and so a potential princess was not found.

Prince Charming returned to the Committee for Princess Finding to revisit his idea of manual scouring of the land. However, expenditure on the Proclamation exceeded expectations and so there was not enough money for any further searches.

Everybody lived, but not particularly happily.
